The Star and the Space Princess & Other Stories

Pulp Science Fiction Short Stories with a Twist

The Star and the Space Princess by Robert L. McCarthy is a bold collection of pulp science fiction short stories packed with adventure, satire, and the unexpected. From interstellar politics to the hidden magic of comic books, McCarthy crafts tales that feel both classic and completely fresh. Each story drips with pulp tradition, but also carries the sharp bite of modern commentary.

Intergalactic Adventure Prose Collection

At the heart of the book is the title story, The Star and the Space Princess, where a washed-up movie actor suddenly finds himself thrust into the chaos of intergalactic adventure. Politics, fame, and danger collide in a story that’s both action-packed and darkly funny.

Other stories in the collection showcase McCarthy’s range and imagination:

  • A rookie cop investigates a murder that leads to the magical roots of the 1960s comic book industry.

  • Earthly thieves discover that stealing from alien worlds comes with far stranger consequences than they expected.

  • A serial killer makes the ultimate mistake by picking the worst possible victim.

Robert L. McCarthy Fiction

McCarthy, best known as the creator of the webcomic Hell on Wheels (howcomics.com), brings the same rebellious, do-it-yourself spirit to prose. Just as he made comics when the industry wouldn’t let him in, he now delivers a short story collection that mixes grit, wit, and imagination.

Sci-Fi Mystery and Crime Stories

Fans of sci-fi mystery and crime stories will find themselves at home here. The collection doesn’t shy away from the darker corners of the human condition, while still serving up page-turning fun. Each tale explores what happens when ordinary people clash with extraordinary circumstances in worlds beyond our own.

An Indie Sci-Fi Short Story Book with Heart

The Star and the Space Princess isn’t just another indie sci-fi short story book. It’s also a project born of determination and resilience. Disabled creator Rob McCarthy’s work reflects his personal journey—challenging industry gatekeepers, carving his own path, and creating stories that are unapologetically unique.
